December Holidays - Part 2

Gerben & Anneke - Annelie, Bernhard, Maryke

Ard & Marissa - Jean-Marie, Marizaan, Louis, Danielle
going on a guided tour in the reserve

walking to a historical point, a shipwreck and whale bones.

a quick stop at the 'deli' near our campsite. The nearest 'shops' was 1 1/2 hours away.

Tannie Joey, I found whale bones and a shell!

a regular thing these holidays, give way to all livestock!

Louis wanted to come over for breakfast. 1,2,3 go!!

big ears in da baaf

Our little family then headed off the 3 days on our own. First a stop over at a B&B in Kokstad, and then 2 nights in Lower Lotheni reserve. A nice place to stop for breakfast!

This one is for you Bob - Nijhof gallery - almost the same spelling!

the view from our chalet. you never tire of the view, the colours are always changing, and occasionally you will spot a buck or some baboons.

way too tempting for a 2 year old.

"sharp dude!"

Hey Mamma, this house is just the right size for me! We visited an old Boer house on the reserve, they must have been such tough people!

so precious

yummmm! Reinier is the king of braai bread. This one had olives and corn in it.

Joshua waiting for his date to arrive :-)

it was raining. he was bored.
our chalet

Next stop. Hlalanathi. Drakensberge.

Joshua kept saying "kyk Mamma, 'n beertjie!" (look Mum, a little bear!) These are Dassies.
 "waars hy nou Mamma?"

and they climb trees!! They look to me a bit like mini wombats! (now, imagine if wombats climbed trees!)
There was an adventure park nearby, Joshua went jumping, really high! He loved it!!
He's already jumping here, before the guy could even hook him up properly!!
lets go!!

grease monkey.

Trapsuutjie!! Ok, you probably know it as a chameleon. Here there are two names for it, 'trapsuutjie' meaning 'walk softly' or 'vekleurmannetjie' literally translated as 'colourful little man'. You've got to love Afrikaans!

can you see him? He's watching you! The only animal who can see where he has been, and where he is going at the same time. :-)

an interesting lodge we drove past

Joshua will often say "sjoe Mamma, dit was 'n monster pee-pee!"

? please explain? I thought we only had to watch out for monkeys?

morning skattebol! Was so nice waking up to this view!

The mountains you see are known as the 'ampitheatre'
we had our own lapa next to the tent with a bathroom, toilet and kitchen. now thats what I call camping :-)

Bob, Elsabè, Lolla and I went tubing, great fun! Along the way, some locals asked me for my shoes!
my boys.
my tube was attracted to rocks for some reason.
a pizza place nearby

"the menu looks good", he said.

Genesis 1:31. "Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day."
