I thought I'd better start writing down some things Joshua says before I forget!
I have written a few things down on paper, but that will eventually get lost, so I thought I'd put it here. Sorry if you cant read or understand Afrikaans - but its just not the same in English!
looking in his childrens bible: "kyk, daar is Abraham, Sara en Handsak"
In my veggie garden, he spots the tomato plants with two ripe ones "Mamma! hierdie twee tamaties is blou, en al die ander is nog pienk!"
early morning he wants to watch some t.v. "Mickey Mouse is rubbish, ek wil gholf kyk!"
he is doing this alot lately: "Pappa, pappa, pappa, kyk ge my, kyk ge my, watse kleur is dit?"
"Het Winston babas in sy maagie Mamma? Oh, ek weet, net meisies kry babas, seuntjies kry klein hondtjies".
When I pick him up from playgroup "Hello Joey. (looks at his friends) dit is my Mamma"
"Mamma, jy moet opstaan! Die Here het die donker afgesit!"
"Die Here het die berge gemaak, en die paddas wat kwaak, en die hondtjies wat blaf!"
finds a dead dove in the garden "Mamma, hy wil nie aan nie! Sit hom weer aan!"
"maak vir my 'n Milio. En vinnig."
Alrina (the playgroup Tannie) gave Joshua a silver star for going to the toilet. When I picked him up, she asked him where is the star that she stuck on his hand. He says "in my maag". So she stuck another one on his hand. He promptly gobbled it up and said "Tannie, ek eet sterretjies vir ontbyt" (no idea where that came from?!?)
"Pappa werk op 'n nekenaar"
As jy dit weer doen, gaan Mamma jou op die stout stoel sit ok? "Ja. Jy mag. Maar net vir twee minute".
(hmm, my threats dont seem to sink in)
Joshua climbs into our bed at 3am. He strokes my face and says "hello Mamma, ons is lekker lui vandag ne?"
"Mamma! Mamma? Mamma! (ja Josh?) moenie vir my kyk as ek deur die venster klim" (hey! wat maak jy?) Ek het gese nie kyk nie!!!" 3 1/2yo.
Joshua, soek jy eendag n boetjie of n sussie? "N sussie Mamma, dan hoef ek nie my trokke, lego en ander speelgoed te deel nie". 3 1/2yo
So we went for a walk this afternoon and heard a frog croaking. Joshua says "I think he's itchy Mum". After some questions and figuring out, I realised that he thinks this because of those African wooden frogs where you rub the stick down their back and they make a croaking noise! 3 1/2
Mamma, ek dink my eerste woord toe ek klein was, was 'dubble vier een nege'. Super random!?! 3 1/2
Do you want Egg & Soldiers or Raisin Toast for breakfast?
"Hey Mum, egg & soldiers, raisin toast is what they sing on Playschool!"
(head & shoulders, knees & toes)
Awwwwww I WISH I could understand Afrikaans! I'm sure it's not the same in English! You'll have to translate via Skype soon! I did try skyping you today! We were just saying over dinner that I should write down things Megan says too! It will get forgotten otherwise...although nanna tend to remember things for me! Precious! Xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a hilarious little dude you have jell! Had to giggle at all of them.... its amazing what they say hey... and most of the time so matter of factly! Must say that it feels as though it gets worse with child number 3... Melandi picks up everything the boys say... and the other day Abby told her off for being naughty and she looks at him with her kwaai face and says " ek is NIE stout nie, jy jok soos 'n bok!" We couldn't stop laughing at her. Enjoy Josh and very clever to record his sayings online!
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny boy, thanks for the laughs! Kids definitely come up with some pearlers! And yep, you do have to write them down because you will forget...well, I do any way :-)
