December holidays

This December we decided to stay close to home, so we went to Jobedi Game Lodge near Vaalwater (about 3 hours out of Pretoria). Ard & Marissa and kids were also there, we had a really nice time. Was so quiet & peaceful there, only about 3 other campers! And the last few days we had the camp all to ourselves. Lekker! We went for a drive early one morning so Reinier could go fishing. I stayed well away from the edge, as a croc lives here! Ard & Reinier saw it a few times...

Rooi ribbok with a young one
It was really hot one day, so we let Joshua play in some nice cool water! He loved it! He's 14 weeks old already.
Louis van de Wetering!! Such a cutie, he's almost 2.
Not a bad view from a campsite hey? We were camped right in the middle of the bush. So quiet.
Impala with baby ones. In the early evenings the little ones all start showing off & start running and jumping, so cute.
A baby Blesbok. (Marissa thought it was a sheep, ha!)
Yum...baking a delicious bread over the coals. Reinier is the bread master :-)
Whenever it started to get dark, we'd put on long pants & closed shoes. (Except the men of course...they're not scared). One evening Marissa picked up a bag lying on the ground and this was underneath!
We got a pretty good fright! After looking in the snake book, we realised its just an egg eater...phew!
Joshua feeding himself :-)

Paradise fly catcher
Joshua went for his first swim! It was such a hot day, he didn't cry!
Ard & Marissa having swimming races
Such a nice spot for a pool, mostly we were the only ones there
Danielle, Ard, Louis, Jean-Marie
Swimming with Pappa

Rooi Hartbees
Louis
This is a great way to keep a little boy entertained. Dig a hole!
Joshua really enjoyed the company of his cousins. He was so easy, and slept right through to 6 or 7 every morning in his camping cot. Great!
Eish...terrible 2's starting early :-)

This ostrich stole my bun, so we killed it. One problem: the braaier is too small. (Kidding!! He was enjoying a sand bath)

Some pretty lizzard
Wildebeeste with babies
Ard & Reinier enjoying a good book
'Wespedief' - apparently a scarce bird. Yay!! Now we can finally tick one off in our book that doesn't say 'Algemene standvoel'
Who's been walking here? I think its was a baboon.
Lekker!!! Potjiekos!
Another thunderstorm rolling in
Chameleon on a a stick, ha! Its amazing how quick they change colours! He went from brown, to yellow, to green and then almost completely black. So cool!!

  1. Lovely photos - I love the one of Joshua in his bouncer - very cute. He's a little chubby chops now!! Glad for you the snake wasn't dangerous! Wish I could jump in that pool right now - it's so humid here today. Take care and thanks for calling yesterday! Love emily x
